Mayor's greeting

From wandering about the mystic alleys of the old town at Panagia peninsula to emerging yourself in an ancient drama play at the Philippi theatre during a summer night, Kavala is a place keen to fulfill the greatest of expectations.

Old tobacco warehouses and traders manors unfold Kavala’s recent past; you can almost feel that cosmopolis buzz of the era. The medieval fortress, the aqueduct (Kamares), Imaret, the city port, the baptistery in Lydia set the stage for residents, visitors & businesses to be inspired to thrive.

Kavala’s 2023 Strategic Plan “Creative city – destination of excellence” is setting the tone for the emerging city of creative industries’ entrepreneurs, agrofood & tourism startuppers, and blue economy innovators. Being selected as one of the 15 EU cities to become a Digital City by 2030, Kavala is evolving into a launch pad for a new movement that’s aspiring to transform its growth model in the years to come.

Standing on the crossroad of three continents while rapidly improving its transport infrastructure (renovation plans for Kavala airport, new Egnatia high-speed railway network, direct access to Egnatia Highway, large investments to Philippos B cargo port) Kavala is swiftly becoming a liveability hotspot.

Welcome to Kavala!

Dimitra Tsanaka
Mayor of Kavala
